Having returned from The RAC Rally last weekend, I had to put pen to paper. It was ab. fab. Wonderful scenery, reasonable weather, very cheap accomodation ( Travelodge £19 per Family room per night). The atmosphere of the rally was great, just like the old days. For older guys and gals seeing rally cars of the past driven by stars of the past was fantastic.. For those interested, look at RAC Rally 2009 website for films , photos and reports then get you accomodation booked early in the new year for the 2010 event.

Sunday was so different to the past three days, the wind a dropped and the sun was shining so off to Lytham Saint Ann’s for their annual show. Set on the promenade at Saint Anne’s in pleasant surrounding, with views of Southport in the distance and the ocean lapping the shores, the weather was fantastic with the sun shining and a great day by the sea. A wide selection of cars, some that I had not seen before. If you want a day by the sea put this one in your diary for next year.

I can recommend this drive to anyone interested in having a scenic day out in their beloved cherished car. The Day was organise by the Walled Towns Society and according to them this is the 11th year it as been running. Over 150 cars participated in the day. Well worth booking on next year.

Dry, Sunny, Pleasant, sums up the Bollington Extravaganza on Sunday. Free Cakes / Coffee or Tea with your entrance tickets and the cakes were delicious. Lots of visitors during the day, expressing interests in the cars. H&H had a turnout of 11 cars and were probably the biggest club turnout. Some interesting Cars & Bikes from several clubs, Staffordshire car club, Stoke car club, Landrover club and the Manchester car club. Motorbike clubs, displaying old and new bikes.

Bar b Qs, tombola stalls, chocolate and fudge stall, ice cream from good old fashion Grannelies, (I am now a little fatter), Model replica toy car stall, several charity stalls, children’s fair ground rides, live music and intermittent sunshine, what more do you want? A fantastic display of owls were at the side of the Hare & Hounds Club stand, and even if you are not into this type of thing, it was an incredible display were you could if you wished interact with the different breeds of owls. (Bye the way this was free). This show is an all weather show because the standing for the cars is a hard stand. So there are no worries if it rains. What more can I say

Glad I went. Lots of interest from the visitors to the show and the general public were complimentary to the display of vehicles. It was great to see some new cars that we had mot seen before. I think the club can feel proud to have put on a display of Bikes and Cars with a wide variation. The tombola had some good things on and the raffle prizes were good. Well done all concerned for an excellent presentation.

Thanks to the judges for my awards I feel that all my work on my cars as paid off and been rewarded. I know judging can not be easy with so many wonderful cars on display.

Thanks Mike

Hebden Bridge Show August 1st & 2nd

This was a great venue, a two-day show with cars pre 1983 on the Saturday and cars pre 1967 on the Sunday. Even though the weather was dreadful on the Saturday the turnout was fantastic. A great collection of cars and a very friendly event. On the Sunday this was the best show I have seen for variety in the last 5 years. There were an incredible selection of cars; I counted 39 Pre 1930s and over 43 pre 1945s. The selection and variety of cars was unbelievable at one show. From concourse and museum standard to the people that looked like they were still rebuilding there dream car. The town was like stepping back in time with canal barges travelling along the side of the show ground, and antiques fair on in the main shopping area. The streets were throbbing with people, and the show ground was busy from the start of the day till well after 4:30pm. If you have never done this show it is well worth considering. If you don’t want to show your car it is well worth a visit. May I suggest you put the date in your diary for next year.

Rally of the Giants. If you have an American car of any description, this is a worthwhile show. Admittedly a long way to go but with an overnight stay (costs £60 per room including a cooked to order breakfast, Premier Lodge) it was well worth it. We met lots of new faces and an incredible collection of American cars. I have never seen as many pre 1930 cars in one place. Plenty of shopping and even though the weather was not the best, the day was a great outing. It was a three and half hour drive but we did not encounter any traffic and drove over the Woodhead and down the A1.

Craft fair, Dog displays, Horse displays, Dog and Duck (no not a Pub) actual Dog and Ducks in the show ring. A display by young boys of football skills. Fair ground rides for those that dare. Tombolas, children’s artwork and craft competitions,

Food was great for mobile food. Pizza van, Crepe stall, extra fattening Donuts with toffee sauce, all was different not the usual burger van or bacon roll.

A great selection of cars on display. One of the highlights was a Jazz Band that visited the H&H stand and stayed for at least half an hour playing some good old tunes. Well it was the first time that I had attended a car show on a Monday evening I thought there would only be around 25 to 30 cars. How wrong was I. I lost count at 150 and they kept arriving Visitors also kept pouring in the car parks (fields) At the last count 73 motorbikes a very wide variety of excellent cars last count 150. Fantastic weather and a pleasant evening. If you have never been then can I suggest that you book for next year? It beats doing the garden. Coming from all areas to this venue would be a pleasant drive I came from Glossop along the Snake Pass with spectacular views. I am so glad I attended this show. Why not take an H&H club Stand next year.

Gordon Bennett

I have just returned from a trip to Ireland with my two cars. This is the second year that I have attended the Gordon Bennett Run. I suppose we have been lucky with the weather. The last two years have been incredible weather so this makes the trip even more worthwhile.

If you have never been on this run it is well worth a trip. It is over three days with three different organised runs around the countryside of Ireland stopping for photo shoots and picnics. It is extremely well organised.

I initially went with the TVVCCC. But this year I booked and went under my own steam. It is not a cheap trip but it as most certainly been worth the cost and the time.

I am happy if the Hare and Hounds Club approves to arrange a trip for next year 2010 if any members would like to go.

I have found a super guesthouse there are hotels for those who prefer, but this guesthouse is fantastic with incredible Irish hospitality.

The costs for the trip are Ferry around £175, the fees for the Gordon Bennett Run £15. Dinner and dance on second night £25 (This is an optional extra) Guesthouse £30 per person per night including a good Irish breakfast. The total cost is around £550 for two people for 5days. Leaving Thursday getting back Tuesday the first weekend in June. I will bring up with the club and if they approve I will make some arrangements for next year.

Thanks Mike

Drive it Day

Thanks for a fabulous day and what a great place to visit. It is the first time we have been with the H&H Club on Drive it Day and I hope it won’t be the last. From the start with a great scenic run planned to end up back in time, (Well it felt like it) The atmosphere was great and the time capsule felt very real. The Spitfire singers the costumes the décor was like TV / Film Set, well done to all concerned; my only criticism is against myself for not taking part and dressing in period costume.

Thanks to the organisers and to all concerned at H&H.

Regards Mike & Shaun

I look at the web site on a weekly bases and look at the forum. It is a shame that this page is not used more frequently, this couls become a good gossip and getting to know you page for the club members, guests and visitors. We could post questions and hopfully get some answers. Is it possible to give the site a push at the monthly meetings? What do the readers and members think?

Thanks Mike

I read with interest your comments and I think this is a good idea. The questions I would ask are

1. Does the club have a limit on the numbers it can have

2. Are we liable if we go posting flyers on car windscreens

3. Is it classed as fly posting and is it legal to do so.

If these questions can be answered and it is ok to put out the flyers I am willing.

Thanks Mike

As we drive around , we all see loads of interesting vehicles parked. It would be great if we all carried a few fliers advertising the club to push under wipers etc. If we could get some run off and inserted into the monthly mag. I'm sure it would increase club membership. Comments please.......

I would like to express my thanks to all who turned out on the Rememberance Sunday Run We had 18 + cars. The day was not without a hitch I broke down in the Studebaker three times on my away their and then had to be transported back home by the RAC. Unfortunately I didn’t make it, We managed to get Jazz Mercedes Baron their and a good selection of other cars. Overall it was a good turn out I will let the club know how much we raised as soon as I have the details. I will also provide some picture once I have had time to put them on my laptop. Once again thank you for advertising the day and a big thank you, to all who braved the weather and turned out.

Kind Regards Mike
